Veterinary Surgeons
Mr Bruce Goodwin MRCVS (Senior Vet)
Bruce grew up on a sheep farm in Western Australia before studying at Murdoch University in Perth. After a year in South Australia, he set off to the UK for what was meant to be a two-year work and travel adventure—but he never left.
He settled in Chesterfield, drawn by its proximity to the Peak District, where he enjoys rock climbing, cycling, and open water swimming.
Professionally, Bruce has a strong interest in surgery, with a particular focus on orthopaedics and acupuncture.
At home, life is lively. He lives on the edge of the Peak District with his partner, two children, rescue dogs, sheep, chickens, more horses than he planned for, and one very cool cat.
Mrs Lucy Duncan BVSc MRCVS (Senior Vet)
Lucy first joined our practice in 2007 during her university placement and returned as a qualified vet in 2009 after graduating from the University of Liverpool.
She brings a wealth of medical expertise to the team, with interests in oncology and surgery. Lucy also plays a key role in mentoring and supporting our junior vets.
Outside of work, Lucy enjoys life with her husband, two young children, and their Sphynx cat, Smee. She makes the most of her free time exploring the Peak District and running.
Miss Lindsey Palmer BVetMed MRCVS (Senior Vet)
Lindsey graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2012 and has been part of the Spire Vets team ever since. Even before qualifying, she spent three years on placement with us during her studies, building strong relationships with both our staff and clients.
Her main passion lies in surgery — she’s happiest when in theatre — and she also has a special interest in breeding. In addition to her clinical work, Lindsey enjoys mentoring our junior vets and supporting their development.
Outside of the practice, Lindsey leads a busy life on her farm, caring for a lively collection of animals, including pigs, ducks, horses, dogs, and cats.
Lindsey loves competing with her horse at local shows and taking her dogs on countryside walks. She also enjoys spending time with her young family skiing and playing in the snow during winter.
Dr Nikki Kershaw MRCVS BVSc
Nikki joined the practice in July 2017 after graduating from Liverpool University and has a particular interest in behavioural medicine.
Outside of work, Nikki is a keen open-water swimmer and has completed the English Channel seven times, both solo and in relay teams. She has also taken part in a relay swim across the Irish Sea.
When she’s not in the water, Nikki enjoys trips to the Lake District and attending the Tiree Music Festival with her friend Helena.
At home, she lives with her husband, daughter, their cat Pipistrelle, and Finlay, a much-loved cavapoo.
Dr Beth Dixon BVSc MRCVS
Beth graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2018 and joined the practice later that year. She enjoys all aspects of her work but has a particular passion for exotic and wildlife cases, with hopes to specialise in this field in the future.
Before joining us, Beth gained invaluable experience working with wildlife charities in India, Zimbabwe, and the USA, as well as with several zoos across the UK.
Outside of work, she loves exploring the Peak District, travelling, and spending time outdoors.
At home, Beth lives on a working farm with her husband, son, Dottie the collie, and Moss the munsterlander. Beth has a small flock of sheep, which she enjoys taking care of. She also enjoys agility training, canicross, and long walks in the Peaks.
Dr Megan Marr BVSc MRCVS
Megan qualified with a BVSc at the end of 2016 from Onderstepoort Veterinary faculty in Pretoria, South Africa. Before this she completed a BSc Agriculture majoring in Animal Science in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Megan grew up with horses and has competed in eventing, dressage, show jumping and mounted games. After arriving in the UK, she purchased a fab little pony called Gary. She has since acquired another two ponies who she competes with in mounted games.
Megan also loves obstacle course racing and most outdoors activities. Whilst at school and university, Megan played provincial hockey and competed at high level in gymnastics.
After qualifying she worked for the South African government for a year in rural Kwa-zulu Natal (Mtwalume) running her own mixed practice clinic. Her second job was at an equine specialist practice where she did a large amount of on call work. She has also locumed for a small animal specialist surgeon.
Meg helps to support the junior vet team with both surgical and medical cases.
Outside of work, Megan can be found at the stables, out competing, with her friends or walking her rescue dog, Peanut.
Miss Aurelija Jonauskaite DVM MRCVS
Aurelija graduated from the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy in 2019 and has been dedicated to small animal care ever since. She first joined our team as an intern before stepping into a full-time veterinary role.
Her main professional interests lie in small animal medicine and surgery, and she has also completed OV training, enabling her to issue pet passports.
Passionate about both her work and personal growth, Aurelija has gained international experience through study exchanges in Hungary, Turkey, and the Czech Republic. In 2024, she also spent two weeks volunteering in Grenada, further broadening her skills and knowledge.
Outside of work, Aurelija loves exploring the outdoors—her adventures have even taken her glacier climbing in Alaska. She enjoys traveling and shares her home here with her partner and their cat, Dobby, while her other cat, Chase, keeps watch back in Lithuania.
