Euthanasia services

When is the time right?

As animal lovers ourselves, we completely understand how hard it is to make an end-of-life decision.

Our veterinary surgeons can help you assess your pet’s quality of life during a consultation.

The PDSA offer a wealth of information on quality of life on their website.

What are my options?

We offer in house euthanasia (at the practice) or alternatively, we can come to your home.

Post euthanasia, you have 3 choices.

  1. At home burial
  2. Individual cremation with the ashes returned in your choice of urn
  3. Communal cremation where your pet is cremated with other animals and the ashes are interred at the crematorium.

Supporting children

Some children find comfort in coming with their pet to say goodbye, but for others this can be quite distressing. As a parent, you know what your child may be comfortable with.

For younger children, we would recommend the following book titles to help them process their loss.

  • Badgers parting gifts-Susan Varley
  • Goodbye Mog-Judith Kerr
  • Tell me about heaven, Grandpa Rabbit-Jenny Album
  • Saying goodbye to Lulu- Corinne Demas
  • Always and Forever- Alan Durant & Debi Gliori

Which crematorium do you use?

We are partnered with Pet Cremation Services in Northampton.

They collect your pet from us after euthanasia and return the ashes to the practice (if requested).

You are welcome to arrange cremation with a crematorium of your choice. Some will offer a collection service but you may also be required to transport your pet to them.

Individual cremations

If you would like your pet’s ashes to be returned to you, PCS offer a selection of products such as scatter tubes, urns and personalised caskets to create a lasting tribute.
