Bruce Goodwin MRCVS
Bruce grew up on a sheep farm in Western Australia and went to Murdoch University in Perth. He spent a year in South Australia before moving to the UK for what was meant to be a 2 year work and travel stint. Bruce ended up in Chesterfield as it was close to the Peak District where he enjoys rock climbing. After spending 15 years working alongside Ian, he took over the practice in 2015. He lives on the edge of the Peak District with 4 rescue dogs, too many horses, one cool cat and Paddy, the world’s best looking goat.
Lucy Duncan BVSc MRCVS
Lucy qualified from the University Of Liverpool in July 2009. In 2007, whilst at university, she completed her placement here at the practice. Lucy joined our team in November 2009 as a qualified veterinary surgeon. She has a particular interest in oncology patients and all aspects of surgery. Lucy lives at home with her Husband, Staffy X, Stan, Maine Coon Cat, George and Sphynx cat, Smee. When she manages to steal time away from the practice, Lucy enjoys walking with Stan in the Peak District and Running.
Sean Brister BVMBVS (Hons) MRCVS
Sean grew up on a dairy and sheep farm in South Derbyshire before attending The University of Nottingham and graduating in 2013. He has since worked in mixed practice in Norfolk and Matlock before joining the team at Spire Vets in March 2016. He has a keen interest in farm animal medicine and surgery as well as herd and flock health. Since starting work at Spire he has restarted government TB testing for our clients. He is equally at home in the clinic where he particularly enjoys consultations and soft tissue surgery. Outside of work, Sean enjoys walking adventures in the Peak District with his partner and their two rescue dogs, Tilly and Bella.
Lindsey Palmer BVetMed MRCVS
Lindsey graduated from the RVC in London in 2012. Shortly after qualifying, she joined us here at Spire Vets. Prior to joining Spire in 2012, Lindsey had undertaken 3 years of placement as a student at the practice. During this time, she developed great relationships with both staff and clients. Lindsey has many hobbies outside of work, some of which include; Riding and competing her horses at local shows, walking her dogs in the countryside and looking after a menagerie of animals (pigs/ducks/horses/dogs/cat) on her farm. She also enjoys spending time with her young family skiing and playing in the snow during winter.
Sean Millard BSc (Hons) BVetMed PGCert MRCVS
Sean Joined us in July 2017 after qualifying in Veterinary Medicine from the RVC in London. He has a wealth of knowledge with other degree’s in Environmental biology, Animal biology and a masters in Equine Science which he completed in Edinburgh. He has a keen interest in both equine and eye cases and is currently training with world champion farriers to get his diploma in farriery. Throughout his time at university, Sean worked on offshore rigs and in local bars and nightclubs. Outside of work, Sean enjoys hiking, cooking and brewing beer. Sean is currently working towards a PHD to investigate how ground surface, shoeing and farriery affect limb vibration and injury rates in racehorses, in London. He will be still be working at the practice a few days each month.
Nikki Fraser MRCVS BVSc
Nikki joined the practice in July 2017 after graduating from Liverpool University. She has a particular interest in Farm and behavioural medicine. Nikki is very active outside of work and has swam the English channel 7 times including both solo swims and relays. On top of this, Nikki has also swum across the Irish Sea in a relay. Nikki lives at home with her two kittens Kova and Kiara as well as her cavapoo puppy Finlay.
Beth Dixon BVSc MRCVS
Beth graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2018 and has been working at Spire since September this year. She loves all aspects of her dream job, but particularly enjoys exotics and wildlife cases and hopes one day to specialise in this field. Before joining Spire she has worked with wildlife charities in India, Zimbabwe and the USA alongside a large number of Zoos in the UK. When not at work, Beth can usually be found exploring in the Peak District or planning her next travel adventure. She lives with her fiancée, Poppy the Cocker Spaniel and their newest family member, Dottie the Collie puppy who she is looking forward to training in agility when she’s old enough!
Megan Marr BVSc MRCVS
Megan qualified with a BVSc at the end of 2016 from Onderstepoort Veterinary faculty in Pretoria, South Africa. Before this she completed a BSc Agriculture majoring in Animal Science in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Megan grew up with horses and has competed in eventing, dressage, showjumping and mounted games. After arriving in the UK, she purchased a fab little pony called Gary who she’ll compete in mounted games. Megan also loves obstacle course racing and most outdoors activities. Whilst at school and university, Megan played provincial hockey and competed at high level in gymnastics. After qualifying she worked for the South African government for a year in rural Kwa-zulu Natal (Mtwalume) running her own mixed practice clinic. Her second job was at an equine specialist practice where she did a large amount of on call work. She has also locumed for a small animal specialist surgeon. Megan is passionate about equine practice and is thoroughly enjoying the mixed practice experience at Spire Vets.
Aurelija Jonauskaite DVM MRCVS
Aurelija graduated from the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy in 2019. She’s passionate about her job and after a busy day will still walk out with a smile on her face. Aurelija completed her internship with us prior to accepting a full-time position. She is particularly interested in small animal cases and surgery. She loves traveling and whilst studying, she was an exchange student in Hungary, Turkey and the Czech Republic. Out of work, Aurelija enjoys outdoor activities and has previously climbed a glacier in Alaska. She has a cat named Chase and a dog called Paira back home in Lithuania.

Helen Morley RVN
Helen joined the practice in 2016 as Head Nurse. She had previously worked at a veterinary practice in Sheffield for 7 years. Helen Studied Equine Science at The University Of Lincoln before embarking on her career in the veterinary industry. She studied Veterinary Nursing at The College of Animal Welfare in Leeds and qualified in 2013. She lives with her partner, two young sons and her dog Rupert.
Kirsty Boam FdSc RVN (Deputy Head Nurse)
Kirsty started working at the practice when she was 15 years old as a Saturday girl. After completing her studies at school, she applied to do her Veterinary Nurse training at Nottingham Trent University. Kirsty qualified in 2015 and returned to the practice in 2016. In her spare time, Kirsty enjoys competing her pony, Paddy and entertaining her rescue kitten, Nigel. She also enjoys camping trips with her family.
Emma Wallhead RVN (Deputy Head Nurse)
Emma completed her veterinary nursing qualification with Bottle Green Training and qualified in 2014. After qualifying, she increased her knowledge by locuming at several practices prior to settling into roles as a head nurse. She joined Spire as a Deputy Head Nurse, alongside Kirsty in 2017. Emma has interests in dermatology, wound management and emergency and critical care. Her love for dermatology spurred her on to complete her dermatology merit award.
Emma lives at home with her partner Dave and their Daschund, Tini. Outside of work, Emma loves eating out, shopping with her partner and spending time with her family.
Julie Lister RVN
Julie has worked at the practice for the last 20 years after qualifying as a veterinary nurse from the RVC, London. She has an abundance of animals at home including 3 guinea pigs, two rabbits a cat and a dog. Her four children keep her extremely busy but when she does manage to steal a bit of time for herself she enjoys running, playing netball and socialising with friends.
Sally Fairs RVN
Sally started working at Spire Vets at the age of 13 as a Saturday girl. During this time, she developed a passion for the veterinary industry and decided to train to be a veterinary nurse. Sally qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1998 after training at Myerscough college. She has recently moved to Goole but continues to commute to the practice. She lives at home with her partner, two children, 3 dogs, 3 cats, 1 horse, ducks and chickens.

Kerry Lee SVN
Kerry came to the practice for her school work experience placement when she was 15 years old. She was offered a Saturday job after completing her studies which led on to her becoming a full-time member of staff. On the rare occasions that Kerry has time to herself, she enjoys collecting coins (both English and Foreign) and socialising with friends. She shares her home with her husband, four children, her Staffordshire Bull Terrier Woody, her cat Jellybean, 6 snakes and various Koi carp.
Amy Miller SVN
Amy joined us in August 2011. Prior to this, she had been a riding instructor, so she is our ‘go to’ nurse for anything equine related! She completed her Veterinary Care Assistant qualification with the College Of Animal Welfare earlier this year and has recently started her Veterinary Nursing qualification with Bottle Green Training. In her spare time, Amy enjoys riding her horses Fletcher and Mazie May and, walking her dog Tyson. Amy also enjoys running and completed her first 10k in 2017.
Helena Belcher SVN
Helena joined us in 2016 as an animal care assistant. She has a large range of experience with animals having worked at both veterinary practices and equestrian centres prior to joining us. Over the next couple of years, she will be completing her nurse training to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse. Helena has a keen interest in horse riding and competes at British Eventing 90 level. Outside of work, she enjoys going to the gym, walking her two Golden Retrievers (Foster and Stella) and entertaining her Spaniel x puppy, Apollo.
Storm joined us in October 2015. She had previously worked in health care as a social worker for palliative care patients. She is an active member of a local amateur boxing gym and competes regularly, most recently winning a gold medal over in Ireland. She enjoys exotic holidays, horse riding with her mum and spending time with her horse Henry and French Bulldog, Dora.
Nikki started at the practice in September 2002. Prior to this, she had been a Saturday girl with us for 2 ½ years. Nikki is our point of contact for anything Cats Protection or Dogs Trust related. In her spare time, she enjoys ice skating and taking part in all genres of dancing. She lives at home with her dog Doug and Cat Stewart.
Kate joined the practice in January 2017. She had previously worked in Customer service but has always had a passion for veterinary nursing. Kate will be completing her nurse training with us over the next few years which will lead to her becoming a Registered Veterinary Nurse. She lives with her fiancé, dogs Chance and Bam Bam as well as three cats Tigger, Moja and Doug. Kate enjoys walking Chanc and Bam Bam in the countryside and spending time with friends. She also spends time making her own dog treats for Chance’s very sensitive tummy!
Andrea joined the practice as a Saturday girl whilst in 6th form. She had previously volunteered at the RSPCA in Chesterfield which helped her to gain invaluable knowledge in animal care and welfare. After turning 18, she was offered a full-time position within the practice. Andrea lives at home with her Husband and Border Terrier, Joe. They enjoy walking, taking holdays in their caravan and spending time with family.
Laura joined the practice in March 2019 as an Animal Care Assistant. She volunteered for the RSPCA in Sheffield prior to working in a small animal veterinary practice. Laura enjoys travelling and has previously lived in New York for 6 months.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends, outdoor activities, country walks and making handmade greetings cards. She is also currently learning how to ski. Laura has two gorgeous cats named Frankie and Max.
Diane has enjoyed being a member of the Spire team for the last 12 years. She is a great fountain of knowledge for clients phoning the practice and offers front of house advice for anyone dropping by. She has always had a love of animals and currently shares her home with several dogs, a cat and two donkeys!
Anne joined us in 2016. She has 40 years’ experience in both arable and pastoral farming which certainly comes in handy at the practice. She lives at home with her husband, two horses and three dogs. Anne enjoys taking holidays to France and Spain with her husband on their motorbike, holidaying in her caravan and spending time with her 3 lovely grandchildren. Anne has recently completed her silver receptionist award with the BVRA
Lisa joined us as a receptionist in September 2016. She has previously worked in a pet shop which helped her to gain invaluable knowledge about differing species’. She lives at home with her partner, young children, her Border Collie Archie, Retriever Millie and her fish. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys holidays with her family, walking her dogs in the countryside and eating out.
Emma, originally from Watford in Hertfordshire, joined our reception team in February 2018. She had previously worked for an animal rescue charity ‘down south’ and after moving up to Derbyshire, branched into veterinary receptionist roles.
She lives at home with her partner, 12 chickens and 5 dogs; Lulu the Staffy, Ralph the Daschund, Lenny the Jack Russel, Gloria the Pomeranian and Lionel the Greyhound. She enjoys being out in the fresh air with her dogs and spending time with family. Emma is currently working towards her Silver qualification with the BVRA’
Donna joined us in November 2017. Donna worked in floristry, running her own business for 10 years, she’s also been a salsa dance teacher and most recently a veterinary receptionist for the past 8 years. She is an active member of the team who enjoys going to the gym, running and walking her beloved Labrador, Moo. Out of work, Donna also enjoys helping her partner to run their pub, The Crafty Dog.
